Dementia Australia offers a broad range of sessions and group programs for family members, friends and carers of a loved one living with Dementia. We were fortunate enough to run a session for the Parish community on 6th March, 2019, which ran for one hour with approximately 50 people in attendance. The session was very informative and engaging in covering a broad range of topics such as:

  • Define dementia
  • Types of dementia
  • Signs and symptoms of dementia
    • Memory loss
    • Communication and language
    • Attentive skills
    • Visual perceptions
    • Reasoning & Judgement
  • Risk factors
  • Prevention
  • Strategies/ plan to assist others with dementia

This was a successful event in raising awareness and educating the parish community on dementia. Unfortunately, today there is no cure yet for dementia, however, even if we find a effective cure for dementia, it’s better to increase our awareness of this complex condition in order to prevent the risks factors of dementia as early as possible.
